Jessie and I decided over the winter that we were going to start posting our bored books online. We used to do this a long time ago on one of those terrible geocities sites with all the pop-ups, but then we stopped and both of us forgot the password so we couldn’t update it anymore. (looking back, it’s actually pretty funny, but is sorely lacking any sort of graphic design.)
But lets back up a moment. “What IS a Bored Book?” you ask. Well let me tell you.
The history of the Bored Books has taken many twists and turns. It all began one afternoon on the ferry back home when Jessie had nobody to talk to (because a dose of Dramamine had knocked out her seasick friend). So, being the creative person she was/is Jessie, well, got creative. She made me (Amelia) a book of sorts using a pad of Post-its and a few highlighters. So, for a while, Bored Books were only on sticky pads (highlighters not necessary). But that got old and we ran out of Post-its, so before too long we were making them on folded up sheets of paper. (At this time most of the content was inside jokes). Then, we got sort of lazy and stopped folding the papers. Now the “Bored Books” were just illustrated notes to each other. By the time we moved away from each other the notes became letters and were exchanged less frequently (often one of us will recieve an envelope from the other with a real letter and three or four Bored Books that have piled up in the time it took us to go get stamps).
As we both progressed artistically, the books stayed remarkably consistent. Stylized, if you will. Recently, I realized that what we were doing actually resembled something like comics. And, well, thereare web-comics, so why not try posting our Bored Books as web-comics?
So, thats what we’re going to do here.
